Protect Your Home and Property from Flooding
Homeowners, landowners and communities bear the ultimate responsibility to help protect themselves, their property and their local values at risk from the threat of flooding.
The drastic changes on the landscape after catastrophic wildfires, like the 2018 Spring Fire and the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire, affects ecosystems and how water moves across the land. High intensity wildfires scorch soil and greatly reduce the amount of vegetation on hillslopes. When rain comes down over the burn scar, these barren slopes allow water to move quickly downhill because very little stands in the way to slow down the flow or absorb the water.
The steep mountainsides and highly erosive granite soils found in our region further complicate problems with flooding. As more water rushes down and picks up speed, it is collecting sediment and debris. These debris-laden floodwaters are highly destructive to anything in their path, including homes, habitats, and streams.
To mitigate this, Wayne Arnold Excavating can build water barriers or cut drainage to direct the water away from building or to another drainage. Furthermore, to make it more aesthetic we often line these barriers with rock, which also stabilizes the barrier.
We Can Help Your Flood Mitigation
Wayne Arnold Excavating are experts in flood damage prevention and will help you build your defenses on and around your property.
For example if your septic system is located in a flood-prone area, a plumber should install a backflow preventer on the building sewer so sewage cannot back up into the home during a flood. A backflow preventer is recommended, as a simple check valve may not close properly and sewage may back up into the home. Also, make sure all inspection caps are in place. Threaded caps can be installed and the pipes can be cut flush with the ground.
The one nasty thing about flooding is that there is no margin of safety other than elevation, and we can help you assess the areas on your property that is a the highest risk, as well as creating a solution for how to mitigate flooding damages.
Wayne Arnold Excavating will make sure that your home and property are optimized against the threat of flooding.
